Medtronic, a prominent medical technology firm, is informing over 3.8 million individuals that their private and health-related data has been exposed due to a recent cybersecurity incident. The breach took place in April 2026, when the well-known ransomware collective ShinyHunters gained unauthorized access to the company's corporate IT infrastructure. ShinyHunters subsequently listed Medtronic on their Tor-based leak platform on April 17, alleging the exfiltration of more than 9 million personal data records alongside terabytes of corporate information. This week, the medical technology leader began dispatching physical notification letters to those impacted, verifying that patient personal and medical details, such as names, contact information, birth dates, Social Security numbers, and specific health data, were taken by the cybercriminals.
